Each year at Dreamforce, industry visionaries and thought leaders gather for the Emerging Technology Trends Keynote to discuss the top trends to watch in the upcoming year. As usual, attendees packed the room to hear from the brilliant minds of Charlie Isaacs, Peter Schwartz, Karthik Chakkarapani and Peter Coffee.
This year, the technologies and discussions tied back to a common theme—connections. Rapidly emerging digital ecosystems are offering more communication channels than ever. The key to success for enterprises is to leverage the right solutions to connect and engage with customers, partners and employees in new ways.
Memory, Batteries and Print—Oh My!
Peter Coffee, VP for Strategic Research at Salesforce, talked about several ways enterprises can harness technology to improve connections and drive business value.
The technologies ranged far and wide from 3D XPoint Technology—a new class of memory that can help turn immense amounts of data into valuable information in real time, to new batteries that charge themselves in 68° to 140°F heat (imagine a cell phone that charges while in your pocket or hot car), to a solution that sends personalized printed material and gifts to customers based on multiple data trends.
“We’re going to be able to put memory in a lot of places where today it would be unfeasible or impractical to do it—and that’s going to be in products next year,” said Coffee.
Memory, batteries and print—so different, yet alike in their ties to the theme of connections. Each has grand potential to enhance the way businesses communicate with customers.
Create an Experience that Feels Like Magic
But print? An emerging technology? Yes, we understand, that sounds odd. As Coffee explained, it’s not about the print or gift, it’s about HOW the print and gift are delivered.
“Imagine if you could take multiple trends, trends of sentiment analysis, trends of instantaneous real-time communications with the customer community—to take the knowledge that a particular customer is about to take a particular kind of vacation in a particular place—and be able to send a unique little gift for them that arrives before they have to leave,” said Coffee.
Our solutions allow you to do just that. By integrating with the power of Salesforce Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud, we make the send of personalized gifts and print as smart (based on data and behavior) and as easy (as easy as sending an email) as possible.
“Talk about taking customer connections to the next level by exploiting multiple trends simultaneously. This is exactly what they are doing at a little outfit called PrintingForLess. This is so beyond—this is taking a multitude of different technologies, and forging the emergence of putting them together to create an experience that feels like magic,” Coffee said.
While we’ve never considered ourselves “magicians,” we do strive to help our customers create experiences that feel like magic. By using physical items to connect with customers, you stimulate multiple senses and emotions, making your interactions more impactful and memorable.
A Need to Redefine
Coffee drove home the point that enterprises shouldn’t focus on the bells and whistles of emerging technologies, but on how to leverage them to drive business value, transformation and innovation.
“The need to go from doing what you’ve done better with technology to understanding that in some cases a change in technology creates a change in marketplace behavior that creates a need to redefine,” said Coffee.
Redefine—that’s exactly what we’re doing at PrintingForLess. As the nation’s first e-commerce printer, we’ve spent more than 16 years helping businesses connect with customers and reach business goals through high quality printed materials. But as Bob Dylan said, the times, they are a changin’. And we’re changing with them.
We’re still printing every day, but as CRM and marketing automation technologies began to transform the way companies connected with customers, we realized that the way companies communicate through physical items needed to adapt as well. Sales and marketing professionals needed a way to send high-impact physical pieces in a personalized, timely and efficient manner. We moved fast to meet this demand.
“We’ve changed the way people buy print and the way that they market to their customers. It’s not about building technology for technology’s sake; it’s about developing solutions for our customers,” said Daniel Gaugler, Vice President of Marketing at PrintingForLess.
Make your Own Magic
The opportunity for innovation has never been higher. Now is the time to embrace emerging digital ecosystems, run fast with ideas, and dare to be copied.
Coffee sums it up nicely: “If you’re not prepared to be a fast moving target so that you can go ahead and show people everything that you do and dare them to try to copy you—if you’re not going to move that fast—I’m sorry, someone else will.”
